Morning Prayer for My Wife

This prayer is offered as a gentle daily way of bringing one’s wife before God. It is not intended to minimise pain, excuse harmful behaviour, or replace honest conversation, wise support, counselling, or appropriate help where needed. Pray only what you can pray honestly, and let the Lord begin there.

Father,

I thank You for my wife, and for the gift of our marriage.

Thank You for entrusting her to me, not as someone for me to manage, correct, or change, but as someone for me to love, honour, cherish, and serve before You.

Lord Jesus, teach me to see her today with Your eyes. Where I have become familiar, impatient, defensive, or critical, soften my heart. Where I have remembered her weaknesses more quickly than her wounds, her burdens, her kindness, or her faithfulness, forgive me and renew my mind.

I ask You to bless her today. Strengthen her body, steady her mind, comfort her heart, and give her the peace that surpasses all understanding. Guard her from fear, discouragement, weariness, and loneliness. Let her know that she is seen, loved, and held by You.

Help me to love her as Christ loved the church, not in pride, control, or self-protection, but in humility, patience, gentleness, and sacrificial care. Teach me to look not only to my own interests, but also to hers. Help me to listen before I answer, to understand before I defend myself, and to speak words that bring grace rather than heaviness.

Where there is pain between us, Lord, bring healing. Where there is misunderstanding, bring light. Where there is distance, bring tenderness. Where there is irritation, bring patience. Where there is fear, bring perfect love.

Give me wisdom today to know when to speak and when to be quiet, when to help and when to give space, when to lead and when simply to be present. Keep me from resentment, self-pity, and the need to be proved right. Make me quick to repent, slow to accuse, and willing to serve.

Father, help her and me to grow in the mind of Christ, doing nothing through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind esteeming one another. Let our home carry the fragrance of Your peace. Let our marriage become a place where grace is practised, mercy is received, and love is renewed.

I entrust my wife to You today. She is Yours before she is mine. Love her through me where I am able, and love her beyond me where I am weak.

In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ,

Amen.
